Travel & Stay

Lodging Recommendations

Funchal has many hotels (both affordable and bougie) as well as Bed and Breakfasts and hostels. There are also many AirBnB and VRBO properties around Funchal and the island to accommodate groups.

The wedding party and immediate family will be staying at the venue (Quinta de Santa Luzia, Rua de Santa Luzia 113) from October 12th-18th.

We encourage everyone to visit the Quinta, it’s our home base! Can’t wait to frolic on the island together.

Turim Santa Maria Hotel ($123/night)

(20-minute walk to the Quinta, closer to downtown Funchal)

Valhalla Panorama ($86/night)

(8-minute walk to the Quinta)

Quinta de Santa Luzia location:

The Quinta is about a 15 min walk downhill to the heart of Funchal. Bring ideal walking shoes, though Bolt’s (like Uber) are very cheap.

How do we get there?

Maderia’s international airport is the Cristiano Ronaldo Airport and one of the busiest in Portugal!

It serves direct flights from a variety of international hubs, like London, Porto, Lisbon, Rome, Edinburgh and more. We recommend stopping or laying over near these places to get to and from Madeira from the U.S.. We do not recommend buying your flights quite yet.

Feeling overwhelmed with flights? We recommend reaching out to our friend Sam Wolfe, a travel consultant who specializes in flights and airfare, for assistance:

How do we get around?

To get to the many other wonderful parts of Madeira, we would recommend renting a car, or booking tour groups, if you would like to reach the many hikes, towns, waterfalls, and more!

If you rent a vehicle, get one with some engine power as the island is mountainous. Here are some ideas. Most are coordinated to and from the airport.

You may rent a car in Portugal with your U.S. drivers license, and rules of the road are similar to those in the states.

Most of Funchal itself is walkable, though quite hilly! We would recommend walking or utilizing Bolt within the city itself. There are also busses as a means of public transportation.
